uns ich er: is a new book from the linguist Beat Gloor, designed by Zurich-based designbureau Prill-Vieceli. The book is about word breaks, you can read the German words in two ways. The design of the book is kept simple with black letters on white paper, format A4 - which is suitable to the content. Great design, great book - you have to "read" it!

ED-Awards 2009: Gold for Formdusche

The four book-journals for 'project 68/89' from Berlin-based design office Formdusche were awarded Gold in the category book layout at the European Design Awards festival 2009 in Zürich.

Berlin Haushoch

Photos, illustrations, graphics and editorial articles are the means of the magazine Berlin Haushoch to deal in a lively way with one of Berlin’s districts at a time. The result is a subtle district portrait that skilfully embraces social and cultural aspects. The magazine, which started in 2005 as a free and independent not-for-profit project, has a circulation of 10,000. (Text: red dot)
Berlin Haushoch was awarded with the red dot design award, the Canon ProFashional Photo Award and the Art Directors Club Award. Edition #3 Charlottenburg will be available from Feb 20th.



The project Berlin Haushoch is created by the three young & talented Berlin designers Alexandra Bald, Ana Lessing and Esra Rotthoff, who studied Visual Communication at the UdK (Universität der Künste Berlin).

Olly Moss, born 1987 in the UK, is an outstanding designer and illustrator. His minimalistic movie poster remixes strip to the essential content of the films. My favourite is The Deer Hunter.

Philipp Ebeling's '10 Minutes, One Afternoon in Whitechapel' is a strikingly beautiful series of snapshots taken during a short-lived snowfall in London, capturing the vanity of a surprising moment. Philipp Ebeling was winner of the 2004 Observer Hodge Photographic Award.

Series found in Foam Magazine #16 'Talent', which is the outcome of an extensive examination of over 300 portfolios that have been sent to the editors in response to the talent call-out. Works of photographers aged 35 or under from 46 different countries have been examined, and a selection of 12 artists have been gathered.

Deko + Munition

In this book of postcards, Peter Piller presents a collection of photographs found on eBay using the search terms Deko + Munition (ammunition + decor). Each photograph has been taken by an eBay seller auctioning off ammunition cartridges. In keeping with their stated purpose as home decorations, each cartridge is lovingly portrayed in the sellers' living rooms. Over the last few years, Piller has been collecting these images for his archive and is now making them accessible for the first time in this selection of postcards.

Städtebau in Zürich

Die Disziplinierung der Stadt > Moderner Städtebau in Zürich 1900 bis 1940

Um 1930 entstehen in Zürich neue Quartiere von grosser Einheitlichkeit und Ausstrahlung. Doch schon vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg ist das städtebauliche Paradigma der Moderne formuliert: Architekten schicken sich an, das urbane Chaos zu ordnen, die Funktionen zu trennen und der Stadt eine ästhetische Ordnung zu geben. Die Vision von sozialer Gerechtigkeit und Integration legitimiert diesen Anspruch, Ideenquellen lieferten die Städtebauwettbewerbe «Gross-Berlin» (1910) und «Gross-Zürich» (1918).
Das neu erscheinende Buch zeigt auf, mit welchen Instrumenten in der Zwischenkriegszeit wirksame Stadtplanung betrieben wurde. Es verbindet Architekturgeschichte mit einer breiten Darstellung sozial- und wirtschaftsgeschichtlicher Hintergründe. Es ist reich illustriert und spannend geschrieben.
